Nigerian Minister denies running for Presidency

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero who was previously nominated by some influential elite in the Presidency to become the next President or Vice President of Nigeria incase the incumbent President Umoru Musa Yar’adua dies as a result of his health condition has denied ever having the passion to run for Presidency stating that the development is the handiwork of mischief makers.

While speaking to newsmen, The Special Adviser on Media to the President, Alhaji Abdullahi Zuru has flown the reports about the Minister of the FCT running for Presidency insisting that the Minister was more concerned about the development of the Federal Capital Territory and never nursed the ambition of either becoming the President in 2011 or to be the Vice President, stressing that the Minister cannot betray his loyalty to the President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Recently, there was an anonymous jingle in the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, (FRCN) Kaduna state station on the achievements of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero and the jingle concluded by stating that the Minister was aiming higher and should be supported.

However, the Special Adviser on Media to the President, Alhaji Abdullahi Zuru said that the jingle was not from the Minister, “Those behind the campaign are the ones earring the jingles in the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Kaduna, on Aliero. We tried to find out who the sponsors are, but to our greatest shock, we discovered that the sponsors are anonymous and the jingles were not from the Minister, we formally wrote a protest letter to the management of the station, to stop the airing of jingle and that’s how we resolved that issue.”

“The next thing they are doing now is that they have capitalized on the current situation in the country and have gone ahead to print posters of the minister and that of Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, saying he is campaigning for the position of Vice President along with Mr. Vice President. How can the minister be campaigning for a position that is not vacant?
Men of the press, my boss have no hand in all these antics, and that is the reason I have rushed to you to present his case before they approach you with their lies. This is my story,” he added.

“At the moment ,my boss is concerned with how to fast-track the development of infrastructures in the FCT, those behind the presidency campaign are doing so to set him against the leadership of the country and, or to distract him from achieving his set targets for the nation’s capital,” he said.

The Special Adviser called on Nigerians to ignore any rumor, posters and campaigns of the Minister running for the Presidency and pray for the recovery of the President from his ill health. To this moment, the Minister is yet to speak about the issue and his position regarding the Presidency remains unknown.
